External Wall Insulation for a Charming Farmhouse in Derbyshire

Project Overview

A beautiful farmhouse perched atop a hill in the scenic Derbyshire countryside required external wall insulation to combat cold temperatures and damp issues. The homeowners, who cherish their rural home and farming lifestyle, sought a solution to improve warmth and energy efficiency while preserving the character of their beloved property.

Why External Wall Insulation?

Initially, the clients explored various insulation options, including internal insulation. However, they determined that internal insulation would disrupt their living spaces and reduce room sizes. External wall insulation presented a far more practical and space-saving alternative, leading them to consult with our team for expert guidance.

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with the homeowners to design an insulation and rendering solution that would meet their needs for warmth, energy efficiency, and minimal disruption. Our tailored plan included:

• Installing Grey EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) insulation for excellent thermal performance.
• Applying Alsecco’s premium rendering system.
• Finishing with a silicone top coat in a cream shade that harmonized beautifully with the farmhouse’s windows, doors, and roof.

Maintaining the Farmhouse’s Character

One of the project’s key challenges was preserving the farmhouse’s traditional charm, especially the distinctive stone window sills. To ensure the insulation system did not obscure these features, we skilfully replicated the original sills, creating a seamless appearance that retained the home’s historic character.

Results and Client Feedback

The transformation was remarkable. The farmhouse now boasts superior insulation, making it warm and comfortable in winter and cool in summer. The cream finish not only enhances the home’s aesthetic appeal but also blends naturally with its countryside setting. The clients expressed their delight with the stunning results, praising both the improved comfort and the careful attention to detail.
